San Jose City Hall, which opened in 2005, is the first city hall in the United States to be retrofitted to the highest possible environmental standard (LEED Platinum), using eco-friendly design, recycled water, and many other green features. The 10-story sheer glass dome rotunda has become a popular event venue for weddings, awards ceremonies, graduations and other celebrations by San Jose residents. The building features ultra-low-flow water features and landscape irrigation that use recycled water, its large windows and skylights maximize the use of natural light throughout the building, and more than 90 percent of waste produced at City Hall is diverted from landfills through recycling and compost programs.
